Carlos,
a native of Caracas, Venezuela, started his musical career as a child playing
different instruments, including his own homemade drums set. By the time he was
14 years old he put together his first band -
"Los Primitivos". He was the lead
guitarist and for a while he also played drums. "Los Primitivos"
played music from the sixties; mainly music from The Rolling Stones, The
Doors and The Animals. In just a few months this band was a proven success. They
appeared on TV and were featured in magazines and
newspapers. They were hailed as Venezuela’s own Rolling Stones. "Los Primitivos"
stayed together until the mid 70's, then returned in the early 80's
with the sweeping interest of music from our 1960's heritage. "Los Primitivos"
continue to perform and enjoy success at present. In
mid 70's, after returning from the USA and England, Carlos aware of the fact
that he needed to start playing his own music, began composing and writing songs
for theatrical plays including the Venezuelan version of Godspell
and other plays such as Caracas Urgente y La Atlantida. For many years he was well-known and respected in the theater
community. It was at this time
that he formed his second band, "Mandala"
playing the bass guitar. In
1978, after two of his band members left to pursue other musical endeavors, he
also went on his own and started performing with a band called
“Tinajas”.
With “Tinajas”
Carlos recorded his
first album, and two of the album’s songs reached the Top 10 and stayed there
for over 16 weeks. While
still playing with “Tinajas”, Carlos and
Oscar Colina, along with Melissa and Edio di Marzo, performed together until the
early 80's when Oscar Colina and Melissa
received an offer to record their first albums. Carlos participated in the
production and arrangement of both of their albums. In
the early 80's Carlos embarked on a new project: a new wave band combined with
Caribbean/reggae rhythms. After recruiting the finest musician “PPS”
was born. Their first album
was cut which was followed by two more. All of these albums were a great success
and the band performed for over five years
in all kind of venues and appeared on TV numerous times. “PPS”
was
not doubt the group that established Carlos as a
well-known and respected musician among the public, with the Venezuelan
and Latin music community, and of course with his colleagues In
the mid 80's, while still performing with
“PPS”, Carlos brought back
"Los Primitivos". The 60's music was popular and so were
"Los Primitivos". Carlos
performed with "Los Primitivos"
almost every night for over five years. During
these years he also continue composing and writing songs for other artists, a
lot of them ex-members of his previous bands. In
90's Carlos, along with Juan Carlos Sabater and a selection of musicians among
the best in the country, started recording a new album released under the name
of “15 y Ultimo”. Shortly after its release, two of his songs reached the Top 10.
One of these made it to number two and stayed among the Top 10 for many months.
One more time Carlos was able to offer to the listeners a satisfying and
well-made album. During
his long and successful musical career in performance, production and arrangement,
Carlos has played and performed with numerous well-known musicians and artists
such as: Frank Quintero, Gloria Gaynor, Rich Family, XTC, Jools Holland, Bernard Lavilliers, Guillermo Carrasco, Guillermo Davila,
Coantimundi, Oscar Colina,
Melissa, Eleazar Yepez, Ezequiel Serrano, Yordano, Jimmy Duncan, Phillip Brenan,
as well as many more. Carlos
has received several awards from the Venezuelan music and theater industries
including “Premio Escenario Juvenil” and “La Flor de Siempre Viva”.
He is a member of the Venezuelan Society of Musicians and Composers. He
has performed in all kind of venues in Colombia, Mexico, Barbados and Venezuela
and has appeared on TV, on the radio, and in newspapers and magazines countless
times. Carlos
continues with his successful musical career composing and producing several
songs for a talented new Venezuelan singer, "Wendy", whose songs are already on
the radio and will soon gain the respect and admiration of the Venezuelan and Latin
fans. Carlos is now pursuing to bring his talent and experience, as a musician and a composer/songwriter to the enormous Latin music market in the USA and Mexico. Copyright
